The tabloid press loves a good “source says” story. When Meghan Sussex appeared as a guest judge on MasterChef Australia, the headlines practically wrote themselves: a demanding duchess, a distressed judge, a production team scrambling to contain the fallout. The Daily Mail reported that Meghan had “insisted” on being called by her first name, while News24 Australia claimed judge Poh Ling Yeow had been left “upset” after introducing Meghan as royalty. Another headline suggested Poh had been “roasted” by fans.
There was just one problem. The people who actually made the show said the alleged conflict did not happen. Poh Ling Yeow, a respected chef, television personality and former MasterChef Australia runner-up, has now directly addressed the rumours on the Nathan, Nat and Shaun radio show. Her account dismantles the manufactured drama entirely.
Poh Ling Yeow’s Statement
Poh Ling Yeow said Meghan Sussex was easy to work with, fully engaged and genuinely knowledgeable about food. She stressed that Meghan stayed with the cast rather than retreating to a private room and caused no problems on set.
Poh also dismissed the tabloid reports based on unnamed sources. She said the experience opened her eyes to the scale of the hostile and often baseless coverage Meghan faces every day.
The Tabloid Version vs. The Reality
Some British and Australian tabloids tried to turn Meghan Sussex’s MasterChef Australia appearance into another behind-the-scenes royal crisis. Their preferred storyline claimed Poh had been left “upset” after introducing Meghan as royalty, while Meghan was supposedly “frustrated” because she did not want to be called Duchess.
News24 Australia reported that Poh had been distressed by an introduction “mistake.” The Daily Mail framed Meghan’s simple request to be called by her first name as an “insistence” that her title not be used. Another headline claimed Poh had been “roasted” by fans.
A representative for Network 10 said the judges and Meghan had a “wonderful time” filming together. A source close to the production also denied that Poh was upset, that Meghan demanded an apology or that producers had to intervene. The televised exchange was equally undramatic. Poh asked Meghan, “Do we call you Duchess?” Meghan smiled and replied, “Oh, call me Meghan.” It was a casual invitation, not a royal protocol emergency.
Poh had already told the public what working with Meghan was really like. Back in April, she described Meghan as “delightful,” easygoing, funny and professional. She said Meghan loved food, understood the judging process and fitted naturally into the programme. That first-hand account should have ended the discussion. Instead, anonymous sources were allowed to overrule an identifiable woman speaking openly about her own experience.

The Dangerous Similarity to the “Meghan Made Kate Cry” Narrative
This manufactured controversy follows a pattern that should feel disturbingly familiar. In 2018, tabloids reported that Meghan had made Kate Middleton cry before the royal wedding. The story spread across the globe, creating the image of Meghan as a bully and Kate as a victim. The truth, which received far less attention, was the reverse: Kate had upset Meghan, and she later apologised with flowers and a note. The original false narrative, however, had already done its damage.
The MasterChef story follows the same blueprint. An anonymous source creates conflict. The claim is repeated across outlets until it becomes an “established fact.” A harmless interaction is rewritten using loaded words such as “insisted,” “frustrated,” “mistake”, and “upset.” When the people directly involved deny the story, the correction receives far less attention than the original allegation.

What makes this different is Poh. Unlike Kate, who remained silent while Meghan absorbed the blame for years, Poh immediately and unequivocally dismantled the false narrative. She did not hide behind palace briefings or anonymous sources. She went on the radio, laughed at the absurdity of the reports and reaffirmed her positive experience with Meghan twice over, once in April and again when the tabloids tried to revive the drama.
Poh did more than defend Meghan. She exposed the weakness of an industry that relies on unnamed voices while disregarding visible evidence and named participants. Her account remained consistent. She enjoyed working with Meghan, found her professional and personable, and saw no resemblance between the woman she met and the hostile caricature in the press.

Final Thoughts
The most revealing part of this story is not what happened on MasterChef Australia. It is what happened after. A harmless exchange was stretched into a scandal because conflict sells better than context. Meghan’s preference to be called by her first name became proof of arrogance. Yet when Gabby Logan called the Princess of Wales “Kate Middleton,” she faced abuse and reportedly received death threats for not using Catherine’s formal title. Catherine has also signed her name “Catherine Wales” for a charity donation.
The message is clear: one woman’s naming preference is treated as a matter of respect, while Meghan’s becomes evidence against her.
Poh refused to let that version stand. She spoke plainly, rejected the reports and made clear that Meghan had been professional, engaged and easy to work with. This time, the woman placed at the centre of the supposed drama did not cooperate with the script. Poh told the truth, and the entire story collapsed.

What we’re not talking about is WHY the UK press continues to insist on these particular lies and the false narrative they build on the lies.
We know they want to punish Princess Meghan eternally and forever, for the unforgivable sin of living her life without their permission and outside their control.
That’s a given, and is true of both the press and the Palaces, specifically William’s comms team as well as stories briefed by Camilla and Charles.
But what else is served by this particular type of lie?
It strikes me that one thing the Palace-Press-Troll cabal is trying to accomplish here is to make it too much trouble for people in various industries, especially anything media-related, to work with Meghan at all.
If you know that just inviting her on your show for a guest appearance is going to trigger a flood of lies and meltdowns in the press, do you think twice about whether it’s worth it? I certainly hope not, but isn’t it a reasonable reaction?
Plenty of people with little to no conscience are happy to drop her name for clicks and engagement (yes, I’m looking at you, Martha Stewart) and of course the Leftovers are delighted to continue to use Meghan, Harry, and their children as distractions and shields to cover their own failures and bad actions.
But they also want to break Meg specifically. To force her to literally disappear, even as they continue to depend on her to generate money for them. And this kind of lie is just one more way to attempt that.
Bless you, Meghan. Keep your head up. We love you and we need your shine in this sad, troubled world.
@IdlesAtCranky, many thanks for the clarity of your observations. You have spotlighted the malicious vendetta and prolonged campaign of spiteful lies, egregious reputational smears aimed at inflicting the maximum damage to character, health and wellbeing, income streams, personal and business growth, etcetera.
Meghan’s amazing resilience in the face of so much hostility and hate from the media, Palace “sources”, the crisis PR machinery, et al, is phenomenal.
Rational and fair minded people from around the world, joined in collective celebration and applauded Meghan’s humanitarian, philanthropic endeavours, to do good and make a difference to the lives of others.
Meghan’s “As Ever” brand, has gained enthusiastic support from her fans and followers. Her demonstrably hard work to secure her family’s future, financial independence and sustainability, is very inspiring and deserves every success, all our good wishes and respect.
