BBC presenter Gabby Logan made a simple mistake. During a rugby broadcast, she spotted the Princess of Wales in the crowd and referred to her as “Kate Middleton.” It was a harmless slip, the kind of casual shorthand that happens in live television all the time.
For this crime, she received days of online abuse and death threats. Logan revealed the backlash on the Sports Agents podcast, explaining that mainly American-based accounts demanded she be beheaded for being “anti-Royal.” They told her she “didn’t realise how incredible this woman was.” All because she used the name Kate Middleton instead of Princess of Wales.
A woman received death threats for failing to use the correct royal title. The Kate stans are officially out of control.
Logan said: “I did know this person when it was cut up once at a rugby game. It was Her Royal Highness, the Princess of Wales, but I didn’t call her that. I said, ‘Oh, Kate Middleton is in the house’. Can I tell you how many days of abuse I got from mainly American-based accounts telling me that basically I needed to be beheaded because I was anti-Royal. I ‘didn’t realise how incredible this woman was’. I mean, she has got a loyal fan base.”

Fina Thoughts
Gabby Logan said “Kate Middleton” instead of “Princess of Wales”, and some folks lost their collective mind. The most extreme Kate stans swarmed her with abuse and accusations of anti-royalism. They demanded she be beheaded because apparently misnaming a princess is now a capital offence in their twisted little world.
The irony is staggering. Kate has previously been quoted as saying, “I’m still very much Kate.” The media still uses “Kate Middleton” widely, especially online, because it remains the name many readers search for. Yet these fans have decided that using her name is an act of treason. They have chosen the name issue as their hill to die on, while not actually supporting her charities, her causes, or even the designers she wears.
What is really going on here is the same protection racket we have seen time and time again. Logan noted that the abuse came mainly from American-based accounts. Some royal fandom spaces have turned praise of Kate into a vehicle for anti-Meghan racism. They love Kate, so they can hate Meghan. They send death threats to anyone who dares to criticise their precious princess while doing absolutely nothing to actually support her work.
The palace has done little publicly to challenge the toxic behaviour carried out in Kate’s name. The palace has done little publicly to challenge the toxic behaviour carried out in Kate’s name. That silence has allowed the fanbase to grow unchecked. Protect Kate. Attack Meghan. And anyone who steps out of line gets the treatment. Gabby Logan did nothing wrong. She used the name the woman has always been known by. But in the world of the Kate stans, that is a crime punishable by death threats. And the palace is perfectly content to look the other way.
