The investigation into suspected child sexual abuse material in the Philippines has expanded to include Thomas Markle Jr. On 5 November 2026, Philippine Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla confirmed that authorities now consider Markle Jr. a person of interest after receiving witness information alleging that underage girls had visited a residence associated with him in Cebu.

Remulla stressed that investigators were still verifying the allegations and had not identified Markle Jr. as a criminal suspect. The development comes after Markle Jr. surrendered boxes of digital devices that he claimed belonged to his father, Thomas Markle Sr., who has strongly denied the allegations against him.

Why Are Philippine Police Investigating Thomas Markle Jr.?

According to Philippine broadcaster News5, Remulla said investigators had received witness accounts alleging that minors were brought to a property associated with the younger Markle.

Authorities are examining those reports to establish whether any illegal activity occurred and whether Markle Jr. had any involvement.

Remulla acknowledged possible indications warranting further investigation but emphasised that Markle Jr. remained a person of interest.

Markle Jr. originally brought the suspected material to the authorities’ attention by surrendering boxes of electronic devices and personal belongings he attributed to his father. Investigators are now examining the evidence and the circumstances surrounding its discovery.

Police Report Approximately 7,500 Images and Seek FBI Assistance

Remulla also provided an update on the recovered digital material. According to Radyo Pilipinas, investigators have identified approximately 7,500 photographs and at least one video containing suspected child sexual abuse material.

Philippine police previously reported finding suspected abuse material during their preliminary examination of memory cards and a mobile phone.

However, authorities have not established who owned the devices, who created the recordings or who possessed the material before investigators recovered it.

Remulla said police were seeking assistance from the US Federal Bureau of Investigation to trace registration details for six mobile phones believed to have originated in the United States.

Investigators are particularly interested in establishing whether the devices can be linked to Thomas Markle Sr. For now, police have not conclusively established ownership of the devices or responsibility for the suspected illegal material.

Markle Sr. continues to deny the allegations against him.

Thomas Markle Jr. Reports Two Additional Storage Units in Los Angeles

In a separate report, The Sun revealed that Thomas Markle Jr. had told the FBI about two storage units in Los Angeles that he said his father had rented for years.

According to the newspaper, Markle Jr. told the FBI about two storage units in Los Angeles that he believes his father continued renting until recently.

He claimed the units contained furniture, photographs, books and other personal belongings. The Sun reported that investigators might examine the facilities as part of their inquiries.

However, there is no independent confirmation that the FBI has searched either unit or recovered evidence of illegal activity. The reported existence of additional storage units does not establish that they contain anything connected to the Philippine investigation.

Questions Remain About the Recovered Evidence

Several aspects of the recovered evidence still require clarification. Earlier Philippine police reports listed nine mobile phones among the devices submitted for examination, while Remulla’s latest statement refers to six phones believed to have originated in the United States. Other police reporting has mentioned five phones. Authorities have not publicly reconciled those figures or confirmed whether they refer to different groups of devices.

Reports also differ on the number of videos recovered. Remulla referred to approximately 7,500 photographs and one video, while ITV News reported his comments about several videos. A final forensic inventory has not been made public.

Authorities have not yet published a final forensic inventory resolving those differences. More importantly, investigators must establish who owned the devices, who accessed them and whether the recovered material provides evidence that an identifiable individual committed a crime.

These questions are particularly significant because Markle Jr. surrendered the items that prompted the original investigation and is now himself a person of interest. His role in reporting the material and the allegations concerning his possible involvement must be examined separately.

The investigation now extends beyond the original allegations against Thomas Markle Sr. Philippine authorities are examining witness accounts concerning his son while continuing to establish the origins and ownership of the recovered material. Both developments deserve rigorous scrutiny. Above all, investigators must identify any children who may have suffered abuse, determine who committed any offences and use the evidence to decide whether to pursue criminal charges.
