Nicki Minaj is having quite the week. Between campaigning for Donald Trump, celebrating Republican candidates and getting publicly corrected by the creator of Chucky, the rapper has somehow found herself at the centre of several embarrassing controversies. And now her former lawyers want $295,605.

According to Rolling Stone, the law firm Gordon Rees Scully Mansukhani renewed its request for a default judgment against Minaj on November 3, claiming she breached their legal agreement and failed to pay for services.

The firm previously represented Minaj in a copyright infringement lawsuit involving her song I Lied, which Julius Johnson alleged copied elements of his track onmysleeve. The parties privately settled that case.

Rolling Stone reports that the lawyers filed their original lawsuit in March 2026 and claim Minaj never responded. The firm now seeks $295,605 in legal fees, interest and additional charges. A court hearing is scheduled for November 16.

Minaj’s representatives did not respond to Rolling Stone’s request for comment, and this is not her only financial dispute. Production company 24/7 Productions separately sued Minaj and her company, Pink Friday Productions, seeking more than $275,000 over allegedly unpaid concert production expenses.

Minaj disputes that claim. Her lawyers argue that she never personally entered into the alleged contract and should not be held responsible for the company’s obligations.

Together, the two lawsuits involve claims exceeding $570,000. However, neither claim establishes that Minaj currently owes the amounts demanded. Still, facing substantial legal claims while spending election week celebrating political allies is certainly an unusual combination.

Even Chucky’s Creator Has Had Enough

Meanwhile, Minaj’s political posts have created another controversy. On November 3, she shared a seemingly AI-generated image of Chucky wearing a pink suit and a badge reading “Vote Red.”

Unfortunately for Nicki, Chucky’s creator, Don Mancini, had something to say. The filmmaker responded:

Mancini subsequently reminded followers that the Child’s Play franchise includes LGBTQ+ representation and shared another image of Chucky sporting blue hair. He also joked: “Too bad, Nicki! No AI, by the way!”

Imagine borrowing a fictional killer doll for your election messaging, only for the person who created him to publicly reject the association. Chucky has officially become one of the more unexpected participants in this celebrity political argument.

Nicki’s Election Commentary Continues

Following the midterms, which saw Democrats regain control of Congress, Minaj published a lengthy list of declarations defending Trump and celebrating Republican winners.

Among them was the statement:

“I don’t vote, I VETO.”

She also congratulated Anna Paulina Luna and Byron Donalds, both of whom won their elections in Florida. But Minaj’s appearance outside a New Hampshire polling station supporting Republican Anthony DiLorenzo did not produce the result he wanted. Democrat Stefany Shaheen defeated him.

What makes this entire episode fascinating is how thoroughly Minaj has embraced political commentary while simultaneously dealing with disputes concerning her professional business relationships.

Nobody can seriously erase her contributions to hip-hop or her considerable influence on female rap. But a musical legacy does not make someone immune from criticism, particularly when they choose to make politics such a public part of their identity.

So, while Nicki continues posting lengthy messages about American politics, despite previously saying she isn’t a US citizen, her former lawyers are pursuing a considerably less glamorous question. When are they getting paid?
