Tenoch Huerta’s Emotional Interview with Delarosatv
In his interview with Delarosatv, Tenoch Huerta opened up about the emotional and professional challenges he has faced, which he likened to the intense themes of his film Days of Grace. The social media accusations against him, initiated by his former girlfriend María Elena Ríos, felt like a form of psychological blackmail. The accusations profoundly impacted his life, even though no legal charges were filed. He missed out on job opportunities, strained personal relationships, and caused his family significant distress.
They judged me without anything, you know, there is nothing, if you ask the court I don’t even have a traffic violation”
Huerta shared that he received threats and blackmail from Rios, which prompted him to take legal protective measures. Although he did not file a formal lawsuit, he initiated a legal procedure known as fe de hechos (Public or Factual Faith). This procedure involves a Notary Public certifying certain events or facts that occur at a specific place and time, giving legal certainty that the state officially recognizes these facts. In light of the serious history surrounding María Elena Ríos and her family, Tenoch Huerta explained that he had to take her threats seriously. Over the years, a series of legally documented crimes have entangled the Ríos family, including car theft, drug trafficking, and assault. Additionally, authorities implicated Elena Ríos’ brother in the murder of an Indigenous teenager in Oaxaca, which prompted the community to expel the family from Tonalá.
Community Support and Huerta’s Ongoing Artistic Pursuits
Despite the emotional toll, which required him to seek therapy, Huerta remains committed to his career, both in Mexico and the United States. Although his work in the U.S. was affected by the accusations, he is determined to rebuild and continue moving forward. He expressed optimism, saying that this process feels like “taking flight again” and starting over from the beginning, reaffirming his resilience and commitment to his craft despite the challenges he’s faced.

The recent screening event was not only a celebration of Mexican cinema but also a powerful show of solidarity. Supporters gathered to stand by Huerta, with many expressing admiration for his resilience. One particularly touching gesture came from a group of women from the Santa Martha penal institution in Ecatepec, who displayed banners of encouragement and pride. These women celebrated Huerta’s roots in Ecatepec and empathized with the injustices he has faced.
The event highlighted Huerta’s determination and the steadfast support he continues to receive from admirers and allies. Despite the challenges, he remains committed to his artistic pursuits. As he looks ahead to upcoming projects, including Netflix’s Las Muertas and Pedro Páramo, Huerta continues to demonstrate remarkable resilience, using his work as a platform for healing and growth.
