Another day, another media figure trying to bait someone into trashing Meghan Sussex, and Vanessa Feltz, who has made criticising Meghan a recurring theme of her media commentary, tried the same tactic again. She invited Tan France onto her show, ostensibly to talk about his career, but spent the segment trying to get him to pile onto the so‑called “tumultuous criticism” of With Love, Meghan. It did not go the way Vanessa hoped.

Tan, who appeared in an episode of Meghan’s Netflix lifestyle series, defended his friend gracefully and firmly. He explained that the show was never meant for British audiences, describing them as too cynical and uninterested in whimsy because life in England is hard and people do not have time to fuss over making a charcuterie board pretty.

When Vanessa asked if he would give Meghan fashion advice, Tan shut that down too, stating that Meghan dresses well, does not need his advice, and is a really chic dresser. You could almost hear Vanessa deflate.

Here is what Hello reported on the exchange:

Meghan Markle earned plenty of criticism when With Love, Meghan aired on Netflix last year, with the lifestyle show being described at one point as “an utterly deranged bizarro world voyage into the centre of nothing”.

However, appearing on Vanessa on Wednesday, the show was defended by one of the Duchess of Sussex’s friends, Queer Eye star and fashion designer Tan France, who previously appeared in an episode of the show.

During the segment, host Vanessa Feltz brought up how Meghan had come in for “tumultuous criticism” when the show aired, highlighting a segment where the mother-of-two poured pretzels into a bag before tying it with a ribbon.

Addressing this, Tan said: “Being from the UK, but living in the US, I think I understand both equally well. It was never going to be for the Brits. The Brits are too cynical, they don’t care about the whimsy, they’re too busy getting on with real life.”

He continued: “Life’s hard in England, they haven’t got time to make a charcuterie board pretty. There’s no reason.”

The fashion designer was also asked whether he considered giving Meghan fashion advice, to which he responded: “Do you know what? She dresses wicked. She doesn’t need my advice. She’s a really chic dresser. I like the way she dresses a lot.”

Now, let me tell you what actually happened here – because the commentary from fans says it all.

Tan handled that beautifully and made Vanessa look petty rather than probing. Vanessa sat there as if she were conducting a gotcha interview, trying to bait Tan into trashing a woman who had never done anything to her. Instead, Tan talked about how thoughtful Meghan was, like the time she gifted him a dabbah because she knew he loved them. He was genuinely touched. That is not the behaviour of a monster.

The strangest part is that Vanessa has even uploaded With Love, Vanessa videos that parody Meghan’s lifestyle content. Based on the public YouTube view counts, the series fell from 305,000 views on Episode 1 to just 2,700 views on the latest listed episode. So she mocks Meghan’s lifestyle world, then turns around and imitates it for diminishing returns? She is as obsessed with Meghan as she is malicious toward her.

Tan said it best without even trying: ” Misery loves company”. And he was not about to provide any. He called the show whimsy, reminded everyone that Brits are too cynical, and moved on. Vanessa got nothing. Not a single crumb of drama.

So here is the truth: With Love, Meghan was never designed as mass-market blockbuster television. Its second season reportedly drew about 2 million views, while the holiday special drew about 2.4 million. That is modest by Netflix standards, but still enough to prove the show has an audience and clearly enough to keep critics like Vanessa Feltz talking. Tan France left that interview with his dignity intact. Vanessa left looking like a bitter woman who cannot stand that Meghan is happy, loved, and unbothered.
