Presley Gerber, Only Son of Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber, Dies at 27

Presley Gerber, the only son of Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber and the older brother of Kaia Gerber, has died at 27.

According to records from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner, Presley died on Sunday, September 20, at a rehabilitation facility. TMZ was first to report his death, while a representative for his family confirmed the news to PEOPLE and asked for privacy during what they described as an extremely painful time. Authorities have not yet completed an autopsy or announced a cause of death.

Presley had spoken candidly in recent years about his mental health, including depression, panic attacks and substance use. In interviews and social media posts, he said he wanted his openness to help other people feel less alone and hoped others could learn from mistakes he had made.

Earlier this year, he documented another attempt at recovery, sharing that he had undergone ibogaine treatment for addiction. In that March post, Presley wrote about trying to confront what he had been running from and hoping he would not have to return to treatment again. His family filled the comments with support. Cindy called him a “warrior,” Kaia said she was deeply proud of her brother, and Rande praised his courage and strength.  

Those messages are especially painful to read now.

The reaction to Presley’s death has also reflected something important about addiction and mental illness: neither wealth, beauty, famous parents nor access to treatment makes someone immune from suffering.

Kaia had previously spoken about how deeply her brother’s struggles affected their entire family, describing addiction as something that “levels everyone.” She also praised Presley for refusing to hide what he was going through and for trying to speak honestly about recovery.  

For now, anything beyond the confirmed facts would be speculation. Presley died while in treatment, but authorities have not said what caused his death.

He is survived by Cindy Crawford, Rande Gerber and Kaia Gerber.
