The Daily Mail has outdone itself. On Tuesday, the paper published a gleeful hit piece claiming that Meghan Sussex sent a $300 care package from her As Ever brand to a superfan who has “openly criticised the Prince and Princess of Wales.” The fan, known as The Notorious JTB, posted a video of himself unboxing the gift, a handwritten note, candles, honey, sprinkles, and a copy of Meghan’s Harper’s Bazaar issue.

What the Daily Mail Reported

Meghan Markle is said to have given a $300 (£238) care package from her lifestyle brand As Ever to a superfan who has openly criticised the Prince and Princess of Wales.

The fan, who goes by The Notorious JTB on X, said he was ‘completely stunned’ to receive the gift and a handwritten note from the Duchess of Sussex, 44, in a post on social media.

Within the past six months, ‘JTB’ has endorsed creators calling out the Princess of Wales’s ‘mediocrity’ and taking aim at the royal family while spending hundreds of dollars on products from As Ever – including over $200 on an order of wine.

JTB has also posted a cruel meme of Princess Diana to mock her son, the Prince of Wales, which was swiftly criticised by fellow X users.

The Daily Mail has contacted Meghan’s representatives for comment.

Good for JTB. Good for Meghan. The Mail Can Stay Mad.

Honestly, JTB has done nothing wrong. He is a private citizen who spends his own money on products he enjoys. He posts his opinions on social media, opinions that happen to be critical of Kate Middleton’s work record and William’s public image. That is not a crime. It is not even unusual. It is what millions of people do every day, including some of their very own supporters.

The Daily Mail is clutching its pearls because Meghan dared to acknowledge a supporter who does not worship the Waleses. But here is the thing: Meghan did not send JTB a gift because he criticised Kate. She sent him a gift because he wished her a happy anniversary. The handwritten note literally says: “Thank you for the anniversary wishes! A few treats for you to enjoy.”

That is it. That is the “scandal.” A woman thanked a fan for a kind gesture. The Mail tries to paint JTB as some kind of obsessive hater. They highlight that he has “spent hundreds of dollars” on As Ever products, as if being a paying customer makes him sinister. They dig up a meme he posted that they claim mocks Diana, ignoring that the meme was clearly aimed at William, not Diana. And then they even quote a TikTok creator who compared Kate’s “mediocrity” to Meghan’s UN speech, and then blame JTB for reposting it.

JTB is not unique. He is one of thousands of people who have grown tired of the royal media’s double standards. Take Kate, for example: she has never addressed the UN, while other European royals have. And when it comes to Meghan, her advocacy work, whether on social media or global stages, carries real weight. Those are opinions. And they are shared by many people.

Meanwhile, the Daily Mail itself has spent years publishing far nastier things about Harry and Meghan. They have called Meghan a narcissist, a liar, a social climber. They have questioned her parenting, her marriage, and her mental health. And now they want to act offended because a fan made a meme about William’s hair, and others reposted it?

Final Thoughts

JTB deserves that care package. He has been a consistent, loud, and positive voice for Harry and Meghan at a time when the tabloid machine has done everything to destroy them. He buys Meghan’s products, shares Sussex news and defends them against racists and trolls. And Meghan, being the classy woman she is, said thank you.

If the Daily Mail wants to write an investigative piece about wasteful royal spending, maybe it should look at the Duchy of Cornwall’s multimillion-pound annual income. Or Prince Andrew’s security bill. Or the cost of royal tours and engagements. But no, they would rather bully a fan who got a box of candles.

So here is my message to JTB: enjoy your honey. Light those candles. And keep speaking your mind. You earned every bit of that gift. And Meghan? Keep being the Duchess who sees her people. The rest of us see you, too.
