The internet has apparently decided that Janine and Gregory may have escaped Abbott Elementary and entered real life. Quinta Brunson and Tyler James Williams are facing renewed dating speculation after a series of recent photos showed the longtime co-stars looking especially comfortable together. In some shots they appear coordinated; in others, Tyler has a hand at Quinta’s lower back, and naturally that was enough for people to start planning a wedding.

There is currently no confirmation that they are dating. Neither Quinta nor Tyler has publicly announced a relationship, and friendly photos between two people who have worked closely together for years are not proof of romance.

Still, I understand why people are looking twice.

The Chemistry Has Always Been There

Quinta and Tyler have spent five seasons building one of television’s most convincing slow-burn romances as Janine Teagues and Gregory Eddie. Off screen, they also seem genuinely close. Earlier this summer, the pair sat down together to reflect on five years of Abbott, discussing their characters and the natural rhythm they have developed working together.  

And workplace romances happen for a reason. You spend long days together, see each other under pressure, learn their habits and discover whether the chemistry survives after everybody stops looking glamorous. So yes, a co-star romance would make sense.

It would also be messy. Quinta is not simply Tyler’s co-star. She created Abbott Elementary, serves as an executive producer and writer, and stars in the series. That would introduce a professional power dynamic worth acknowledging if anything romantic is actually happening.

Personally, I would need more than coordinated outfits and a hand on the back before declaring them a couple.

Quinta Is Definitely Single

One part of the speculation that does check out is Quinta’s relationship status. She filed for divorce from Kevin Jay Anik in March 2025 after more than three years of marriage. Their divorce was settled in September 2025 and formally finalized the following month, with both sides waiving spousal support.

So there is no husband standing in the way of this particular fantasy.

What I am not interested in is the weird speculation about Tyler’s sexuality. Tyler addressed the speculation himself in 2023, writing, “I’m not gay,” while criticizing the practice of trying to identify someone’s sexuality from their mannerisms or behavior. That whole conversation says considerably more about people’s expectations of Black masculinity than it does about Tyler.

If Quinta and Tyler are just friends, they look comfortable and happy together. If they are dating? Well. I am not mad at it. I would just like them to protect Abbott Elementary at all costs.
