The trial of Dominique Pélicot, accused of enlisting at least 50 men to rape his drugged wife, Gisèle Pélicot, (72) has sent shockwaves across France. As horrifying details continue to emerge, their daughter, Caroline Darian, was overwhelmed with emotion and left the courtroom in tears.
Gisèle Pélicot’s Husband Accused of Decade-Long Abuse
Gisèle Pélicot, who has requested an open trial, has been at the center of this shocking case. Her husband, Dominique Pélicot, faces rape charges alongside 50 other men who were allegedly recruited online to abuse her. Investigators revealed that Gisèle was drugged and unaware of the decade-long assaults, which were orchestrated by her husband through an online forum. The trial, held in Avignon, is expected to conclude in December.
As presiding judge Roger Arata presented key evidence, including nude photos of Gisèle Pélicot’s daughter found on Dominique Pélicot’s computer, their daughter Caroline Darian was overcome with emotion. The images were discovered in a folder titled “Around my daughter, naked,” leading Darian to break down and leave the courtroom. She later returned to the proceedings after 20 minutes, supported by her brothers and lawyer.
Victims Ordeal and the Charges Facing 50 Men
Gisèle Pélicot’s husband is among 18 men currently in custody, while 32 others attend the trial as free men. Investigators uncovered thousands of photos and videos documenting Gisèle’s abuse at the hands of strangers, all recruited by her husband on an online forum called “Without her knowledge.” The men’s age range from 26 to 74. Some are married with children. Some are accused of raping the victim once, while others of raping her multiple times. The men, if convicted, face up to 20 years in prison for aggravated rape.

As the trial unfolds, the case of Gisèle Pélicot has sparked national outrage and concern, with many questioning how such abuse could go unnoticed for so many years. Despite the trauma she endured, Gisèle has shown remarkable bravery by requesting that the trial be held in the public eye, shining a light on her harrowing experience. Her story has become a powerful symbol of the urgent need for justice and reform, as the court prepares to deliver its final verdict by December.
