Tenoch Huerta has offered a tantalising glimpse into Namor’s role in Avengers: Doomsday, suggesting that the Talokanil king’s fraught relationship with Shuri, played by Letitia Wright, develops in a significant way. Speaking at San Diego Comic-Con, Huerta described their hostility and painful history developing into a fragile trust as Wakanda and Talokan unite against a larger threat.

Huerta said Shuri asks Namor to make a difficult choice, and that her request carries particular weight because of the bond they have formed. “From that connection, she asks him to make a really hard decision, because she says, ‘You must’ … When your enemy tells you something like that, Namor must do it.”

Letitia Wright has addressed Shuri passing the Black Panther mantle to David Jonsson’s Prince T’Challa, while confirming that audiences will first see Shuri fully established in the role in Avengers: Doomsday.

“She now has that mantle to pass on, and guidance and the wisdom. I’m going to have a really, really good time, a lot of fun and I’m going to pick on him so much.”

So, with Shuri preparing to pass the Black Panther mantle to Prince T’Challa, the bigger question is what comes next for her. Will she focus on science, take on a wider leadership role within the Avengers, or build a future beyond Wakanda? Her deepening connection with Namor also raises another possibility: could her next chapter lead her closer to Talokan and to him?

Nashuri Fans Have Every Reason to Be Excited

Tenoch Huerta’s comments about Namor and Shuri moving from hatred towards trust sound exactly like the development their relationship deserves. Their connection in Wakanda Forever was never shallow. It grew from shared grief, political tension, mutual respect and the recognition that both of them would do anything to protect their people.

Now Shuri reportedly asks Namor to make a difficult choice, and he listens because their bond has changed. That is not nothing. It suggests their relationship still matters and that Marvel has not forgotten the emotional groundwork Ryan Coogler established.

I am hoping Avengers: Doomsday gives them meaningful scenes together instead of pushing Namor towards Sue Storm simply because of their comic-book history. The MCU created a distinct version of Namor whose strongest surface-world connection is already tied to Shuri, Wakanda and the conflict with Talokan. Abandoning that history for a rushed new dynamic would feel forced.

Of course, Tenoch has warned that he does not know whether the scene survived the final edit, so I am trying not to celebrate too early. Still, the fact that he described their hatred developing into trust gives Nashuri fans every reason to be excited.

People can continue calling the ship fanon, but the chemistry, symbolism and emotional tension were placed on screen deliberately. The bracelet, the mural, their shared losses and the way they understood one another all gave audiences something substantial to respond to.

Nashuri does not need an immediate romance to work. Give us the tension, loyalty, political alliance and growing trust first. Let the relationship breathe. Just do not pretend there is nothing between them when Wakanda Forever made their connection one of the film’s most compelling dynamics.
