A federal judge sentenced rapper Sean Kingston to three and a half years in prison for orchestrating a scheme that defrauded businesses of over $1 million. A jury found Kingston, known for 2000s hits like Beautiful Girls and Fire Burning, guilty in March 2025 on multiple counts of wire fraud and conspiracy. The sentencing took place on August 15 in a South Florida federal court.

Fraud Scheme Targeted Luxury Goods

Prosecutors say Kingston and his mother, Janice Turner, ran a scheme using fake wire transfer confirmations. They posed as high-profile buyers to obtain luxury items, including designer watches, electronics, and a Cadillac Escalade. However, they never delivered actual payment. The fraud lasted several months and played out mostly on social media. Kingston’s celebrity status helped him earn the trust of vendors.

Last month, the court sentenced Janice Turner to four years in prison after a jury found her guilty on the same charges. While Kingston remained free on bail during his trial, more victims came forward, accusing him of luring them with false promises and fake wire transfers. In total, the losses exceeded $1 million.

Courtroom Apology and Sentencing Outcome

At the sentencing hearing, Kingston addressed the judge and apologized for his actions. He did not dispute the verdict but asked for leniency, citing a desire to rebuild his life and career. The judge handed down a 42-month sentence, noting the deliberate nature of the scheme and its repeated use of deception. Kingston has not publicly commented on whether he will appeal.
