Sean “Diddy” Combs will remain behind bars until May 8, 2028, according to the Federal Bureau of Prisons. The once-powerful music mogul, 55, was sentenced to 50 months in federal prison after being convicted on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution under the Mann Act. The case, which unfolded in New York, has become one of the most high-profile downfalls in modern entertainment.
Judge Arun Subramanian sentenced Combs on October 3, 2025. He cited the serious nature of Combs’ conduct and the need for deterrence. Prosecutors said the evidence showed a disturbing pattern of coercion. The jury had acquitted Combs of the more severe sex trafficking and racketeering charges. He has already served a year since his September 2024 arrest. Combs must also pay a $500,000 fine and complete rehabilitation programs while in custody.

The Bureau of Prisons lists Combs’ projected release date as May 2028, factoring in good behavior and time already served. His lawyers have filed an appeal, claiming procedural errors and unfair bias during trial proceedings. However, legal experts suggest the appeal faces an uphill battle, given the federal conviction and sentencing guidelines.
Combs’ representatives have also confirmed he sought a presidential pardon from Donald Trump, but a White House spokesperson dismissed the rumors as having “zero truth.” With his Bad Boy Records empire fractured and endorsement deals withdrawn, Combs’ future in the industry remains uncertain.
The case has reignited debate about accountability and privilege in entertainment. Once hailed as a symbol of Black entrepreneurial success, Diddy now stands as a cautionary tale of excess, power, and consequence. His downfall shows that celebrity influence cannot shield anyone from justice.
