Ryan Coogler has officially revealed that Black Panther 3 is not only in the works—it could also feature one of Hollywood’s greatest living actors. During a recent interview on the Nightcap podcast, Coogler shared his hopes to bring Denzel Washington into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While Marvel Studios has yet to make a public announcement about the sequel, Coogler made it clear that conversations are already happening behind the scenes.

Ryan Coogler Wants Denzel Washington In Black Panther 3

Director Ryan Coogler stands next to a quote expressing his intention to work with Denzel Washington in Black Panther 3, saying, “As long as he’s interested—it’s going to happen,” alongside a note that the film won’t take long to be made.

When asked about the rumors surrounding Washington’s potential role in the third Black Panther installment, Coogler didn’t hold back. His excitement was genuine, and fans quickly took notice. The idea of Coogler and Washington joining forces under the Black Panther banner has already sparked major buzz online.

Denzel Washington Accidentally Revealed The News First

Washington first hinted at his involvement during a press tour for the Gladiator sequel in November 2024. While appearing on Australia’s Today Show, the Oscar-winning actor mentioned that Coogler was writing a role for him in the next Black Panther movie. He later apologized to Coogler for revealing that detail too early. Still, his interest was obvious. “At this point in my career, I’m only interested in working with the best,” Washington said. “I want to do things I haven’t done before.

That comment adds weight to his potential involvement in a superhero franchise he’s never joined—until now. Washington also revealed plans to play Othello again on stage, followed by a film about Hannibal, and a possible project with director Steve McQueen. But the idea of him stepping into Wakanda feels different. It signals legacy.

Black Panther 3 Is Not Officially Announced By Marvel Studios

Despite Coogler’s comments, Marvel Studios has not confirmed Black Panther 3. The franchise’s first two films grossed more than $2 billion worldwide and were cultural milestones. Still, the studio has remained silent about when—or even if—a third installment would happen.

That silence hasn’t stopped Coogler from moving forward. During the Nightcap interview, when asked how long fans would have to wait, he simply said, “Not long.” It was a short answer, but a promising one. After the long and emotional process of making Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Coogler seems ready to return to Wakanda with renewed energy and a new vision.

Coogler’s Evolving Vision For The Black Panther Universe

The Black Panther franchise has always carried deep cultural meaning. With Chadwick Boseman’s passing in 2020, the second film expanded the story beyond one hero. Letitia Wright’s Shuri stepped into the lead, and characters like Nakia, M’Baku, and Riri Williams took on larger roles. Adding someone like Denzel Washington could deepen the world even further.

Though his role remains unknown, fans are already imagining the possibilities. Could he play a Wakandan elder? A powerful antagonist? A former king? Whatever the role, Denzel’s presence would bring gravitas, emotion, and undeniable star power.

A New Chapter For Black Panther Begins

Ryan Coogler and Denzel Washington are on track to shape the future of Wakanda, with Coogler confirming his intent to bring Washington into Black Panther 3. While Marvel remains quiet, Coogler is already building a bold new chapter. If Washington joins the cast, it could become one of the most powerful additions in superhero film history.

With Letitia Wright and Tenoch Huerta set to reprise their roles in Avengers: Doomsday, the world of Black Panther continues to expand—and Wakanda’s story is far from over.
