First, RadarOnline dropped an explosive “exclusive”: Prince William is reportedly preparing to “bring the curtain down” on Prince Harry and Meghan Sussex once he becomes king, and according to an insider, he’ll do it with “great pleasure.” Then, the Express followed up with a piece arguing that William “just dealt a major blow” to the Sussexes as he plans to sell off 20% of the Duchy of Cornwall, proving he “means business.”

Two different publications, two different angles, but the same underlying message: the future monarch is done playing nice. But when did William ever play nice? And where is the outrage for Prince Andrew? If these reports are true, the royals really need to sort out their priorities.

What RadarOnline Claims

According to RadarOnline, William plans to wash his hands of both Harry and Meghan once he takes the throne. An insider told The Examiner:

“The moment he does get control, whether that’s officially taking the throne or just finally getting Charles to come around to seeing his way and booting them out, the curtain is going to come down on Harry and Meghan. William will do it with great pleasure.”

The source also claimed that William believes Harry and Meghan are watching his recent moves “with great envy,” adding: “He’s making the sort of massive impact they bragged they were going to make when they launched Archewell, but that fell flat. They don’t have the endless resources that William has to make his promises a reality. The real resentment, in his mind, is directed toward Meghan because he believes the family dynamic dramatically changed after she entered the picture.”

RadarOnline further reports that William is increasingly convinced Harry and Meghan’s marriage will eventually collapse, and that he blames Meghan for the royal rift, a source close to William claimed. Interestingly, the same source insisted William still loves Harry deep down, but believes reconciliation is impossible while Meghan remains central to his life.

So, William would only accept Harry back into the fold if he leaves his wife and children? And this is the man being sold to us as a loving family man? He must have inherited that trait from his stepmother, who is infamous for breaking up families.

What the Express Says

Meanwhile, the Express took a different tack. Columnist Adam Toms argued that William’s decision to sell off 20% of the Duchy of Cornwall, a £1bn estate that provides him with over £20 million a year in private income, is a “major blow” to the Sussexes.

“The Prince of Wales has decided to sell off 20% of the Duchy of Cornwall’s property over a decade, presumably with the King’s blessing. It was also announced that £500 million will be invested in local communities, including in affordable housing and environmental projects.”

Toms wrote that the move shows William is “serious about modernisation” and that “change is definitely on my agenda.” He contrasted William’s tangible progress with Harry and Meghan’s recent visit to Australia, citing a Roy Morgan poll that found 81% of Australians said the trip did not improve their opinion of the couple, and 75% said it did not show a more positive side of Meghan.

The Express concluded: “It seems abandoning your family and sniping at them from another country does not ensure you become the public’s darlings. Staying put and doing your duty, what you were born to do, does.”

You Cannot Boot Out People Who Already Left

Unsurprisingly, this whole media narrative is confusing, to say the least. You cannot “boot out” people who are not even there. The Sussexes already quit years ago. Honestly, you cannot fire someone who has already resigned. And the hypocrisy is staggering: William wants to cut off Harry, yet he reportedly drove Prince Andrew to church in 2023, after the Newsnight interview and the Virginia Giuffre settlement. He is also worried about his uncle’s mental health, becuase being a privileged prince who is linked to a convicted paedophile is mentally exhausting, apparently. That says a lot about the future king’s priorities when it comes to Andrew’s Epstein-linked scandals.

I also question why these “William will banish the Sussexes” stories keep getting pushed out. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. The whole premise is absurd. He cannot do anything to them in California. They left. So why does the press keep making William look like a desperate ex who, quite frankly, needs to move on?

So which is it? Is William a calculating future king who takes “great pleasure” in punishing his brother? Or is he a dutiful moderniser finally making the monarchy fit for the 21st century?

Final Thoughts

One of the worst things about coverage of the so-called working royals, or the publicly funded royal machine, is the constant need to drag Harry and Meghan into everything for clickbait. They are used as salacious fodder whenever the press needs attention, even when the story has nothing to do with them.

Meanwhile, Andrew’s disgrace keeps widening. Beyond his ties to Jeffrey Epstein and the sexual assault allegations he has denied, police are reportedly examining a separate Royal Ascot allegation of inappropriate behaviour. Court documents have also raised fresh questions about his time as trade envoy, after Buckingham Palace was reportedly handed more than 30,000 emails in 2020 linked to claims about sensitive government information. Yet the media seems far less interested in asking what Prince William will do about his disgraced uncle, especially if Andrew outlives King Charles and William inherits the political and reputational scandal.

There is plenty of other royal stories to pursue, and stories are their business. But they choose not to touch the stories that might make the institution look too exposed. Instead, they keep returning to Harry and Meghan because it is easy, profitable and familiar.
