According to TMZ, Nicki Minaj has lost another lawyer in her ongoing $10 million legal battle, and this time the reason is blunt: a “communication breakdown.” When your own attorney files paperwork saying he can’t reach you, that’s alarming.
Matthew Abbott, who had been representing Nicki in a defamation lawsuit brought by fan Tameer Peak, has now asked the court for permission to withdraw. And the explanation reads like someone who is tired of being left on read.
The Lawsuit That Won’t Go Away
The case stems from claims that Nicki falsely accused Tameer Peak of stalking and criminal behavior in 2024 and 2025. Peak previously sued her over alleged slander in August 2024, and the legal back-and-forth has been dragging on ever since. He is seeking $10 million in damages.
Abbott reportedly told the court that he and the management company he works with have not heard from Nicki “in months.” He says they reached out to her several times. They contacted her accountants. They texted and emailed her directly. Nothing.
This comes after her former attorney, Judd Burstein, abruptly withdrew from the case late last year. No detailed public explanation. Just gone.
Two lawyers exiting the same matter within months? That’s not a good look for anyone, especially when a judge has now set a deadline for her to secure new representation.

Reportedly, Abbott formally asked the court to step away, citing repeated unanswered communications. Judges don’t love chaos, and they especially don’t love stalled cases. The court has not yet ruled on his motion, but Nicki now faces a ticking clock.
Public reaction on X has been… loud. Some critics argue she appears more focused on social media disputes than legal strategy. Others speculate that silence toward counsel may signal deeper issues within the case itself. Fair or not, perception matters, and right now, the perception isn’t flattering.
It’s also worth noting that attorneys do not typically withdraw from high-profile clients unless something has broken down behind the scenes. Sometimes cases become unwinnable. Sometimes clients ignore advice. Sometimes communication simply collapses. Whatever the reason, when legal professionals start walking away, it sends a message.
A Pattern of Legal Turbulence
Nicki has faced multiple lawsuits over the years, and this situation adds another layer to an already complicated public narrative. Losing one attorney can happen. Losing two in the same case raises eyebrows.
The judge’s deadline means she must now secure new representation or risk further consequences in the defamation suit. That kind of pressure changes the tone of any case quickly.
If she wants this to stabilize, she needs a lawyer who can actually reach her.
Until then, the $10 million question remains unanswered, and the court clock keeps ticking.
And since she’s publicly aligned herself with MAGA politics lately, perhaps she’ll call in reinforcements. Pam Bondi, your phone might be ringing.
