Prince Harry attended Game 5 of the NBA Finals in San Antonio. He sat next to NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, watched a historic championship match, and was seen with a decorated U.S. Army veteran. Sports outlets covered it as a routine celebrity sighting. Then the royal tabloids got hold of the story.
Suddenly, Harry’s solo appearance became a “shock” absence of Meghan, a pointed snub of Trooping the Colour, and yet another sign of Sussex marriage trouble. The same man who is supposedly “controlled” by his wife was now being framed as desperate to escape her. The mental gymnastics would be impressive if they weren’t so predictably exhausting.

The Tabloid Spin
Prince Harry went to an NBA Finals game. That should have been the end of the story. Sports coverage treated it as a straightforward celebrity sighting, noting that Harry sat beside NBA Commissioner Adam Silver and near Purple Heart recipient JP Lane, a direct link to his Invictus work. The royal tabloids chose a different angle. The Sun called it a “shock solo appearance,” while the Express stressed that Harry attended “without Meghan Markle” as the royal family gathered for Trooping the Colour.
That framing tells you everything. When sports outlets covered the event, they focused on where Harry was, who he sat with, and why his appearance generated buzz. When royal outlets covered it, they centred Meghan’s absence and implied tension. The same facts became two different stories.

The hypocrisy is exhausting. The same outlets that claim Harry is so tightly controlled by Meghan that they do everything together now spin his solo outing as proof of trouble in paradise. They cannot have it both ways. Either he is joined at the hip with her, or he is free to have his own life. What makes it even funnier is that they probably had an alternate article ready to go: “Meghan forces Harry to attend a game with her.” Now that she stays home with the children, the narrative is that she has abandoned him. She cannot win becuase the narrative they sell to their audience is that the Sussexes are on the brink of divorce. Funny how they did not run with that narrative when Prince William was attending his football games with his wife, Kate Middleton.

Harry Went To A Game And The Tabloids Turned It Into A Marriage Plot
It is completely normal for couples to enjoy separate activities. Nobody writes about it because it is not news. But because it is Harry, everything becomes a drama. He was seen enjoying himself alongside Spike Lee and the NBA commissioner, a clear refutation of the absurd claim that America is somehow “done” with Harry and Meghan. The British tabloids and their American acolytes keep pushing this subversive notion: that because the royalist establishment hates Harry for choosing a mixed‑race Black American wife, he must therefore be persona non grata everywhere. As if their racist contempt is a universal law. They forget that the United States fought a war to rid itself of English royals. They do not answer to their authority. The idea that Americans would adopt their petty grudges is laughable.

The Contrast With Trooping the Colour
The dividing line is Trooping the Colour. The royal press used Harry’s NBA cameo to suggest distance from London, distance from the family, and distance from Meghan. They could not simply say Harry watched basketball. They needed it to mean something.
Meanwhile, William and Kate paraded their children through a highly public, politically charged event as protesters chanted, “Not my king.” The contrast could not be starker. Harry was at a historic championship game, sitting next to the most powerful man in the NBA, celebrating with a decorated veteran, promoting Invictus by association, and looking genuinely happy. The critics will try to claim he was in the “cheap seats” or being snubbed by Spike Lee. None of that was true. He was the commissioner’s personal guest.
If Harry attending a basketball game overshadowed Trooping the Colour, then the royal family has much bigger problems. But the tabloids will never admit that. They just keep spinning, and normal people keep laughing. Harry is not jealous of anyone’s throne. He is too busy living his best life. And honestly? Good for him.

Here’s a question, how many men attended the game without their wives? And does that mean that they are getting divorced? Hmmmm?
British tabloids are so juvenile it is shocking that most British journalists are educated in private schools. Behold the crap produced by the creme de la creme of the British education system! Who is surprised that the British empire disintegrated and Britain continues to decay?
