GB News never misses a chance to sneer at Black culture, and this week it managed to do so with a particularly ugly bit of theatre. During a segment about the Home Office blocking Ye, formerly Kanye West, from entering Britain for Wireless Festival, Beverley Turner brought her teenage daughter Kiki on air to offer what the host called a “teen’s eye view.”
The result was a mess: a discussion that mixed a few fair observations about Ye’s instability and public conduct with lazy racial coding, sweeping attacks on rap, and one spectacularly reckless claim about Drake that could have created real legal trouble. The segment aired as Britain absorbed the fallout from Ye’s ban, which followed government findings that his presence was not “conducive to the public good” after years of antisemitic statements, Hitler praise and Nazi imagery. Wireless was then cancelled altogether.
The segment that should never have aired
Beverley Turner, a GB News presenter, brought her daughter Kiki onto the show to discuss the Home Office’s decision to block Kanye West from entering the United Kingdom for the Wireless Festival over his history of antisemitic comments. The premise was ostensibly to get a teen’s eye view on why young people are so excited about Kanye. But what actually happened was something else entirely.
Kiki, to her credit, made some nuanced points. She called Kanye West very mentally ill, noted that he was wrongly diagnosed with bipolar disorder before being identified as autistic in 2025, and acknowledged that he should never have been on social media while unwell. She also pointed out that Kanye has tried to make amends by meeting with rabbis in New York and attempting to do the same in London. These are reasonable observations from a young person who clearly knows the music.
But then the segment veered off a cliff.
Kiki claimed that Drake, another rapper who performed at Wireless last year, makes music about stabbing people, shooting people, and raping women. Beverley Turner then chimed in with a breathtakingly racist generalization, asking rhetorically, “Is Drake a rapper?” and suggesting that all rappers are homophobic, misogynistic, and often antisemitic. The implication was clear: they are all like that, so why make a fuss about Kanye?
The factual errors that could cost GB News millions
First of all, Drake is Jewish. He has a Jewish mother, Sandi Graham, and a Black American father, Dennis Graham. That context matters because the segment was ostensibly about antisemitism, and yet the network allowed a guest to defame a Jewish artist with zero fact-checking. Secondly, Drake has never rapped about raping women. Not once. Not in any song. This is not a matter of interpretation or artistic license.
It is a flat-out false statement made on national television by a minor, facilitated by Kiki’s mother, who was sitting right next to her, and amplified by a network that should have known better. As a side note, the irony is almost painful: Drake has a song titled “Keke,” which makes the fact that a young woman named Kiki was the one slandering him a layer of unintentional comedy that no screenwriter would dare invent.
Drake is famously litigious. He has a history of taking legal action over false claims. And now GB News has handed him a gift-wrapped lawsuit on a silver platter. The segment has since been deleted, but the internet never forgets. The full clip has been saved and shared widely.
GB News leans on the oldest racial clichés in the book
The overt racism in the clip is also impossible to ignore. Kiki described Kanye West as having grown up in “poor crime-ridden Chicago,” a stereotype that reduces a complex American city to a dangerous caricature. The reality, of course, is quite different. No, Kanye West did not grow up poor; he was raised in a middle-class household on Chicago’s South Side.
His mother, Dr. Donda West, was an English professor, and his father was a photographer, providing a stable, intellectual upbringing. He attended school in a suburban neighborhood and even lived in China at age ten. This is not a story of urban poverty. This is the story of a highly educated, professional family.
But GB News would rather peddle the grim stereotype, the same way the Daily Mail spent years implying that Meghan Sussex grew up in some version of Straight Outta Compton rather than the middle-class Los Angeles neighborhood she actually came from. This is racism with a British accent.

The wider pattern at GB News
This latest disaster follows a familiar pattern at a network that seems to care more about outrage than accuracy. Last year, GB News had to apologize to Doria Ragland, the mother of Meghan Sussex, after falsely claiming she had a criminal record and had not been present in Meghan’s life growing up. Neither statement was true. Both caused harm. And now they have done it again, this time with a teenager as the unwitting weapon.
The irony is almost too rich to process. GB News has spent years attacking the BBC and demanding an end to the license fee, arguing that the state should not fund public broadcasting. And yet, as The Times recently reported, the network is now asking for public funding eligibility via contestable tenders in the BBC charter review. After over £100 million in cumulative losses since 2021, GB News wants a share of public service media pots like the BBC World Service budget. So state funding is bad, unless they need it.

Final thoughts
So to recap, GB News let a teenager go on air and accuse one of the most litigious musicians in the world of rapping about rape. The network then deleted the segment, presumably after someone in legal had a heart attack. The same network has a documented history of making false statements about private individuals. And now, as their revenue declines and their losses mount, they want the taxpayer to bail them out.
Kiki made some good points about Kanye West. She was wrong about Drake. But she is a child. The adults in the room, including her mother and the producers at GB News, should have known better. Instead, they let their racism and their desperation for content override basic journalistic standards. And now Drake’s lawyers are probably already on the phone. You really could not make it up. But GB News just did.

I hope Drake sues those racist fools for all the money in the world.
So do I, Martini!
They clearly don’t seem to learn from their past egregious misconduct!🤞
