Simone Ashley is officially entering a new chapter as both an actor and a musician. The Bridgerton star has released her debut EP, Songs I Wrote in New York. In an interview with Refinery29 Australia, Ashley said music came before acting in her life, but she only recently felt ready to share that part of herself publicly.

She explained that acting allows her to inhabit other people’s stories, while music gives her the freedom to tell her own. She sees them as distinct but equally important parts of her creativity.

Ashley told Refinery29 Australia that the EP was written during her time in New York and reflects her preference for cinematic, emotionally driven music. She also expressed interest in performing live, including a possible future visit to Australia. Asked about Bridgerton, she remained noncommittal but said the series would “always feel like home.”

Bridgerton fans don’t need to worry, however, because Ashley has no plans to hang up her acting costumes to focus solely on music. “There’s space for both. They’re both storytelling, just through different mediums,” the musician notes.

There hasn’t been confirmation as to whether the star will be reprising her role as Kate Bridgerton in Bridgerton Season 5, and when we ask, she stays coy. “Bridgerton will always feel like home to me,” she answers. “I’m so grateful for everything it’s given me, and for the audience who’ve embraced Kate so wholeheartedly. I love seeing where the story goes each season.”

Simone Ashley Is Leaving the Door Open While Building Her Next Chapter

Losing Simone Ashley from Bridgerton would disappoint fans who adore Kate Sharma, now Viscountess Bridgerton. However, Ashley is clearly entering an exciting new phase. Her music career is underway; she has appeared in The Devil Wears Prada 2, and she is attached to the forthcoming romance Falling.

Ashley brought depth, warmth and quiet authority to Kate. Although Netflix has not clearly confirmed her Season 5 return, she has left the door open. Her comment that Bridgerton will “always feel like home” recognises what the role has meant to her without committing to plans that may still depend on scheduling.

Hopefully, she can return as Viscountess Bridgerton and help guide the younger siblings through their love stories. Kate deserves to remain part of the story, while Simone Ashley deserves the freedom to pursue more than one role.
