Jay-Z brought out a very special guest during his latest concert in Los Angeles. His daughter, Blue Ivy Carter. And this time, she wasn’t dancing.

The 14-year-old joined her father onstage at SoFi Stadium on Friday, October 23, to play piano during two of his songs. Blue Ivy accompanied Jay-Z on The Story of O.J. and Dead Presidents.

After the performance, the two embraced before Blue Ivy bowed to the audience and left the stage. But there was another lovely moment happening away from the spotlight.

Beyoncé watched the performance alongside her former Destiny’s Child bandmates, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams. Yes, all three women were together again. And while they didn’t perform as Destiny’s Child, seeing them celebrating the occasion was wonderful.

The performance formed part of Jay-Z’s anniversary concerts celebrating thirty years since Reasonable Doubt and twenty-five years since The Blueprint.

And I have to say, I love that Blue Ivy is developing her own musical interests.

Blue Ivy Is Becoming a Proper Musician

One of the things I appreciate about Blue Ivy is that she isn’t limiting herself to one kind of performance. We have already seen her dance. She joined Beyoncé during the Renaissance World Tour in 2023. And she continued performing during the Cowboy Carter Tour in 2025.

Those appearances required considerable preparation. She had to learn choreography. Perform in front of enormous audiences and develop the confidence required to share a stage with one of the world’s most accomplished entertainers.

Now we’re seeing another side of her abilities. She’s playing piano and she isn’t simply performing a familiar classical piece at a family celebration.

She’s accompanying her father during a stadium concert. That requires concentration, timing, and an understanding of how her playing fits into the wider performance. Blue Ivy is still young. But it’s encouraging to see her exploring different musical skills.

Beyoncé and Destiny’s Child Were Watching

Of course, I also loved seeing Beyoncé with Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams. The three women have maintained their friendships long after Destiny’s Child stopped recording together regularly. And every time they reunite, people become excited.

Understandably. Destiny’s Child helped define an entire era of popular music. Their songs remain instantly recognisable. And their influence extends across several generations of performers.

But I particularly appreciate seeing the women together when there isn’t a commercial project involved. They weren’t announcing a tour. Or promoting a reunion album. They were enjoying a concert. And supporting somebody they care about.

That is lovely. Although I would still welcome another Destiny’s Child performance. I’m not pretending otherwise.

Let Blue Ivy Develop at Her Own Pace

What I hope most is that Blue Ivy continues enjoying music without feeling pressured to become another Beyoncé. That would be an impossible expectation.

Beyoncé has spent decades developing her craft. Jay-Z has built an equally substantial career. Blue Ivy is fourteen. She should be allowed to experiment. Make mistakes. And discover what kind of performer she wants to become.

Perhaps she’ll eventually pursue a full-time music career. Perhaps she’ll prefer working behind the scenes. Or perhaps she’ll develop interests that have nothing to do with entertainment. All of those possibilities should remain open.

For now, I think we can simply appreciate a talented teenager enjoying a special moment with her father. And the fact that Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams were watching makes the occasion even sweeter.

Blue Ivy has already performed with both of her parents. I can’t wait to see what she chooses to do next.
