According to local reports, a man entered the salon under the pretense of delivering a gift. He then shot Márquez in the chest and head before fleeing the scene. Her livestream captured the moment just before the attack, with Márquez speaking off-camera moments prior.
Tributes have poured in from fans and fellow influencers, many describing her as a “brave entrepreneur” who had been open about the challenges she faced as a young woman in Mexico. The killing has sparked renewed conversations about femicide, online safety, and violence against women in Latin America.
Authorities say the investigation is ongoing, and the suspect has not yet been apprehended.

Valeria Márquez was just 23. She was building a life, growing a business, and doing what she loved. She should have been safe in that salon. But instead, her life was stolen in the middle of a livestream, in front of a digital community that admired her. It is a brutal reminder of the violence women face every day in Mexico and around the world. Femicide is not rare. It is not shocking anymore. And that is exactly the problem. Until society treats the murder of women as a crisis, until we stop dismissing these deaths as isolated or inevitable, more lives like Valeria’s will be lost. Her death is not just a story. It is a profound and painful call to act.
