Bad Bunny is calling out ICE after witnessing what he described as a violent immigration raid in his hometown of Carolina, Puerto Rico. In an Instagram Story, the Grammy-winning artist filmed agents arresting people in the Pontezuela neighborhood, angrily calling them “sons of bitches” and urging them to “leave those people alone.”

The footage shows ICE agents escorting individuals into SUVs, prompting widespread concern over escalating immigration enforcement in Puerto Rico. According to Rebecca González-Ramos, ICE’s top investigator on the island, nearly 500 people—mostly Dominicans-have been detained since President Trump returned to office in January 2025. Fewer than 80 of those arrested have criminal records.

Bad Bunny, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, denounced the raids as unnecessary and aggressive. “They’re just working,” he said in the video. “Leave them alone. Why the hell are they doing this here?

His post quickly went viral, with fellow celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Olivia Rodrigo, and Katy Perry reposting the clip and expressing solidarity. Comedian D.L. Hughley also defended the protests that have erupted in Puerto Rico in response to the raids, calling ICE’s actions “state-sponsored harassment.”

ICE officials confirmed that their agents have conducted unannounced raids in public areas, construction sites, and even hotels. DMV employees were also reportedly asked to identify immigrants who received driver’s licenses through Puerto Rico’s policy supporting undocumented residents.

Despite backlash, ICE maintains its operations are legal. Conservative outlets have framed Bad Bunny’s criticism as a smear, accusing him of endangering federal agents with inflammatory language. Meanwhile, left-leaning sources have praised his courage and highlighted the racialized targeting of working-class Dominican communities.

Our Take

Bad Bunny put the spotlight on ICE by filming their actions in real time, capturing a moment of fear unfolding in the streets of Puerto Rico. His video didn’t narrate outrage; it made you see it. Immigration enforcement doesn’t just create policy—it inflicts public violence on people with jobs, families, and no safety net. And in Puerto Rico, still reeling from years of disaster and neglect, that violence cuts even deeper. Bad Bunny calling out ICE is a demand to see the humanity behind the headlines.
