When the NFL announced that Bad Bunny would headline the Super Bowl LX halftime show in Santa Clara, it should have been a celebration. Instead, it has become the latest stage for Trump’s war on immigrants. Corey Lewandowski, a Trump advisor, declared that ICE agents will patrol the game and warned that no undocumented person will find safe haven, not even at the Super Bowl.

Lewandowski’s remarks were more than security talk. They were a direct attack on the Latino community and on Bad Bunny himself, a Puerto Rican artist who has long used his platform to denounce xenophobia. Calling it “shameful” that the NFL chose him, Lewandowski accused Bad Bunny of hating America. That claim ignores the reality: as a Puerto Rican, Bad Bunny is a U.S. citizen, a fact that highlights the absurdity of Trump’s rhetoric.

ICE Intimidation Meets Latino Pride

Behind the language of safety, the threat carried a clear message of intimidation. Trump’s allies want to send a message to Latinos: your culture, your music, and even your citizenship are suspect. Bad Bunny has already spoken about avoiding U.S. tour stops because of ICE raids. He said he didn’t want his fans living in fear at his concerts. Now, with the biggest stage in American entertainment, he is being openly targeted.

The irony is glaring. Past halftime headliners like Rihanna, Shakira, and U2 were all non-citizens. None faced threats of immigration raids. Yet when the show finally highlights a Latino superstar from a U.S. territory, ICE is suddenly on the scene. The double standard reveals the racial politics driving this crusade.

Culture Will Not Be Silenced

Bad Bunny’s presence at the Super Bowl is more than a performance; it is a statement of cultural visibility and resistance. For millions of Latinos, seeing him on that stage is proof that their voices belong in the heart of American culture.

Trump and ICE can threaten, intimidate, and posture, but they cannot erase the fact that Bad Bunny represents a generation unwilling to bow to fear. ICE agents at the gates will not define this halftime show. Latino culture will take the field and refuse to be silenced.
