Meghan Sussex has added another flavour to the As Ever pantry, and this one feels designed specifically for holiday hosting. After teasing the arrival earlier this week, As Ever’s new Fig Spread is officially available, joining Raspberry Spread, Strawberry Spread, Orange Marmalade and the Spiced Apple Butter in the brand’s growing collection of preserves.

The limited-edition Fig Spread costs $12 for a 7.6-ounce jar and contains just four listed ingredients: figs, organic cane sugar, fruit pectin and lemon juice concentrate. As Ever describes it, it is deep and rich, with jammy notes and subtle sweetness, and suggests serving it with cheese, freshly baked bread or as part of a holiday grazing board.

A fig spread and cheese is exactly where my mind went when Meghan first teased this.

There is something about fig that instantly feels suited to a holiday cheese board. Add a good Brie or goat cheese, crackers, walnuts, grapes and perhaps some prosciutto, then put the Fig Spread in the middle and suddenly the snack table looks far more considered than the amount of work involved would suggest.

As Ever is clearly thinking along similar lines. The brand specifically recommends serving the spread alongside a selection of cheeses for a holiday charcuterie board and suggests adding it to a grazing board when welcoming guests.

The Fig Spread is also available as part of two new sets. The Fig Spread Trio costs $42, while the Holiday Spreads Trio, also $42, combines Fig Spread, Spiced Apple Butter and Orange Marmalade.

For anyone building a holiday pantry or putting together a hostess gift, that second set makes particular sense. You get something for the cheese board, something warm and autumnal, and something bright enough for breakfast the following morning.

Did As Ever Just Tease Its Next Home Product?

Now, here is the detail that caught my attention. One of the new Fig Spread promotional images features a wooden serving board stamped with As Ever’s palm-tree crest. So naturally, I have questions.

Chocolate-dipped figs arranged around a wooden serving board stamped with As Ever’s palm-tree crest in promotional imagery for the new Fig Spread.

As Ever has already moved well beyond pantry products this holiday season. The company recently expanded its Entertaining Collection with porcelain teaware, embroidered linens and handwoven rattan table accessories. But there is currently no As Ever cutting board or charcuterie board listed for sale in the collection.

The branded wooden board could simply be a styling prop, but As Ever has quietly teased products before. Earlier in October, Meghan shared her black Labrador, Pula, playing with what turned out to be the Raspberry Spread Plush Squeaker before it officially launched later that month, so a branded cheese or charcuterie board appearing in the not-too-distant future would not be entirely surprising.

A wooden cheese or charcuterie board would make almost suspiciously good sense for As Ever now. The brand already sells spreads, honey, wine, chocolates, table linens, rattan accessories and porcelain, so a serving board would fit naturally into its growing entertaining collection.

So if you are going to tell customers to serve your new Fig Spread on a holiday grazing board, eventually selling them the board would be a pretty logical next step.

To be clear, As Ever has not announced a charcuterie board, and the branded wooden board in the Fig Spread imagery could simply have been created for the shoot.

For now, consider this one firmly in the speculation column. But if an As Ever wooden serving board suddenly appears in the shop before Christmas, we will be coming back to this photo.
