Federal authorities in Miami have arrested social media influencers Andrew and Tristan Tate, according to the U.S. Marshals Service, as British authorities seek their extradition on rape and human trafficking charges.

The brothers, who have amassed millions of followers with their polarizing “alpha male” brand promoting wealth, male dominance and misogyny, entered custody on a sealed warrant. Authorities did not immediately announce the charges as the warrant remains sealed, but the UK’s Crown Prosecution Service has since confirmed the brothers face a total of 38 new charges related to multiple victims.

The arrest places the United States at the centre of an international legal saga that has stretched from Romania to Britain. The dual U.S. and British citizens moved to Romania in 2016, where authorities arrested them in 2022 on similar allegations, though legal and procedural problems have prevented that case from moving forward. Last year, Romanian authorities allowed them to leave the country, and they flew to Florida on a private jet.

The pending charges in the UK accuse the brothers of abusing women in an area north of London, where they grew up. Andrew Tate, 39, faces additional charges including profiting from prostitution and 19 charges “for offences relating to indecent images of a child and extreme pornography,” according to UK authorities.

The brothers were taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service on a sealed warrant, agency spokesperson Brady McCarron told The Associated Press, placing the United States at the center of an international legal saga that has stretched from Romania to Britain.

In a statement Saturday, the U.K.’s Crown Prosecution Services said that in addition to the charges publicly announced against the brothers in 2025, involving alleged crimes against three women, it was bringing a total of 38 new charges related to “four further victims.”

Both brothers are accused of rape and human trafficking. Andrew Tate faces an additional charge of profiting from prostitution, and 19 charges “for offences relating to indecent images of a child and extreme pornography,” according to U.K. authorities.

The UK Charges Have Changed the Stakes

The reaction online has been striking for one reason: this time, people seem to believe the Tate brothers may finally be running out of road. Andrew and Tristan Tate have been arrested before, yet they have repeatedly managed to remain in the public eye while their legal battles dragged on. That history has left many people cautious about celebrating too early.

What has changed is the scale of the allegations now facing them in the UK. Much of the confusion came from reports that U.S. Marshals were involved in the arrest. Some assumed that meant the brothers were facing American federal charges. In reality, the Marshals were acting on a British extradition request. The prosecution itself is taking place in the United Kingdom, where prosecutors have decided there is enough evidence to move forward.

That distinction matters. Unlike a domestic U.S. criminal case, these are British prosecutions. The outcome will ultimately depend on the UK courts, and any extradition process must run its course before the brothers face trial there.
