Thomas Markle Sr., 82, is reportedly under investigation in the Philippines after his son, Thomas Markle Jr., 60, claimed he discovered hundreds, potentially thousands, of suspected child sexual abuse images among his father’s belongings.
The allegations, first reported by The Sun on October 22, have sparked a bitter family dispute. Samantha Markle, 61, accuses her brother of fabricating the claims for financial gain, while Thomas Sr. has dismissed the accusations as false.
Thomas Markle Sr. has not been charged or brought before a court over these allegations, and authorities have yet to establish whether he knowingly possessed any illegal material.
Thomas Markle Jr. Reports Alleged Discovery to Police
According to The Sun’s foreign editor Nick Parker, Thomas Jr. discovered the suspected material while examining boxes of belongings stored in Cebu, Philippines, following his father’s return to the United States.
The boxes reportedly contained electronic devices, hard drives, books, family memorabilia and professional documents. Thomas Jr. claims he first encountered disturbing material on an old mobile phone before examining additional storage devices. Speaking to The Sun, he explained his decision to contact authorities:
Thomas Jnr told The Sun after submitting his sworn statement to child abuse police in the Philippines tonight: “When I found this material I was horrified and I had no option but to report my dad.
“I have supported, cared for him and helped him for years — but that stops now.
“I won’t speak to my father ever again unless I’m called to give evidence against him.”
Thomas Markle Junior in The Sun
Thomas Jr. told the newspaper that he initially contacted American authorities on July 10, including the FBI and the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.
According to The Sun, Philippine authorities established a specialist task force to investigate the allegations and arrange a forensic examination of the devices. However, the available reporting does not establish that investigators have independently verified Thomas Jr.’s account in full.
Samantha Markle Accuses Her Brother of Fabricating the Allegations
Hours after The Sun’s exclusive, the Daily Mail published a response by Caroline Graham and Patrick Harrington, featuring Samantha Markle’s defence of her father.
Samantha claimed the computers had been shipped from Mexico to the Philippines and remained outside Thomas Sr.’s possession for approximately two years. She suggested someone could have tampered with them and accused her brother of fabricating the allegations for financial gain.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, Samantha declared:
“There is no merit in these disgusting allegations whatsoever and my brother is disgusting for making them up. He wants to destroy our dad. Shame on him.”
She further alleged that Thomas Jr. had relied financially on their father and turned against him when that support ended. Samantha has provided no publicly verified forensic evidence supporting her suggestion of tampering, while Thomas Jr.‘s allegations have not established his father’s guilt.
Caroline Graham, Thomas Markle and the British Media’s Double Standard
One of the most revealing aspects of the Daily Mail’s response is its co-author, Caroline Graham, who has maintained a close personal friendship with Thomas Markle since 2018.
In December 2025, Thomas contacted Graham about his impending leg amputation before informing his own children. She subsequently alerted Thomas Jr. and Samantha and visited him in hospital. For a man who spent years complaining about family estrangement, he had developed a remarkably close relationship with the journalist covering it.

And Graham works for the same newspaper group that has continuously attacked Meghan, from publishing the racially charged “Harry’s Girl Is (Almost) Straight Outta Compton” headline to releasing excerpts from Meghan’s private letter to her father, which resulted in Associated Newspapers losing a privacy and copyright lawsuit.
Yet the Daily Mail continued providing Thomas with a platform while repeatedly portraying Meghan’s estrangement as a moral failing. Its journalists even publicly urged her to take Harry and their children to visit him. Its journalists even publicly urged her to take Harry and their children to visit him.
Now Graham is reporting Samantha’s defence of Thomas against allegations made by his son.

Why Is the British Press Dragging Meghan Sussex Into This?
For years, British commentators portrayed Thomas Markle as an abandoned father and criticised Meghan Sussex for refusing to reconcile.
Piers Morgan spent years attacking Meghan Sussex, repeatedly weaponising her estrangement from her father to portray her as cruel and lacking compassion. Dan Wootton called her the “nastiest Duchess in history,” while Caroline Graham maintained a close personal friendship with Thomas and reported extensively on his grievances.
Yet The Sun’s reporting on the latest allegations included an unnamed source supposedly close to Meghan, suggesting the accusations might explain her estrangement.

Meghan has now revealed that she learned in 2018 about a letter containing disturbing allegations against her father, which had been sent to the Metropolitan Police and Royalty and Specialist Protection. She says authorities assured her the matter was being investigated and that she deliberately distanced herself from Thomas to protect her family.
That does not establish Thomas Markle’s guilt or prove Meghan knew about the specific material allegedly discovered in 2026.
But it makes the years of criticism directed at her for maintaining family boundaries considerably harder to defend. And where are all those commentators who spent years lecturing Meghan about family loyalty?
Given the extraordinary access certain British journalists enjoyed to Thomas Markle, perhaps they should examine their own reporting with the same enthusiasm they devoted to scrutinising his daughter.
What did these journalists know about the family’s disputes, what did they verify, and how did their personal relationships influence their coverage?
There is no evidence they knew about the alleged material before October 22. Nevertheless, the British press should be willing to scrutinise the narratives it helped create rather than continue making Meghan responsible for the conduct of her estranged relatives.
