Netflix is officially expanding the Bridgerton universe again, this time with a limited series centered on the love story of a young Violet Ledger and Viscount Edmund Bridgerton.

The currently untitled project will follow how Violet met and fell in love with the man who would become the father of the eight Bridgerton siblings. Shonda Rhimes and Nicholas Nardini will co-write, co-showrun and executive produce, while Queen Charlotte director Tom Verica will return behind the camera. Netflix has not yet announced a release date or the actors who will play Violet and Edmund.

The premise is not entirely new territory for book readers. Julia Quinn explored part of Violet and Edmund’s courtship in the short story Violet in Bloom, included in The Bridgertons: Happily Ever After. Quinn has said she deliberately avoided writing a full-length romance for the couple because readers already know Edmund dies young, making their story inherently bittersweet.

Lady Danbury Is Apparently Riding Again

Netflix has not formally announced the cast, but Arsema Thomas has strongly indicated that she will reprise her role as young Agatha Danbury from Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story. After sharing an article about the new series to Instagram Stories, Thomas wrote, “We ride again!” and later reportedly responded “Yup!” when Black Film Alerts asked whether she was returning.

That would make sense narratively. Queen Charlotte already tied young Violet’s family history to Agatha Danbury through Lady Danbury’s relationship with Violet’s father, Lord Ledger. Netflix currently lists Thomas as the actress who played young Lady Danbury, although the streamer has not yet officially included her in the new spin-off’s cast announcement.

We also cannot pretend this came completely out of nowhere. Last year, when Adjoa Andoh appeared to tease more Queen Charlotte, we noted that fans were already discussing a Violet Bridgerton prequel as one possible direction for the franchise. At the time, our preference was still a Lady Danbury story. That has not changed.

Bridgerton Still Has Something Other Streamers Haven’t Cracked

I am excited about this, although Netflix’s release schedule remains slightly ridiculous. Bridgerton seasons can take years to arrive, yet somehow the franchise still finds room for another spin-off.

But I understand why Netflix keeps expanding it. Bridgerton has done something remarkably few major period romances have managed: build a huge, glossy fantasy world where Black and brown characters can occupy the centre of the romance rather than exist around its edges.

That is why I wish more studios had followed Shonda Rhimes and Julian Fellowes into big-budget period drama. Bridgerton brings inclusive romance; The Gilded Age brings old-money spectacle. Its fourth season arrives on HBO Max on November 2, 2026.

And if Arsema Thomas really is returning, the spin-off immediately becomes more interesting. Violet and Edmund’s romance may provide the title story, but I would happily watch the series use the Queen Charlotte structure to continue Agatha Danbury’s story alongside it. After everything young Agatha survived, she deserves more than cameos. She deserves adventures, friendships, romance, and a life lived entirely on her own terms.
