Megan Thee Stallion is looking back at her relationship with Klay Thompson and making one thing clear: she will not make herself smaller for a partner.

Five months after the rapper confirmed their breakup, Megan has opened up about what the relationship taught her, describing a period in which she increasingly felt she was trying to fit herself into somebody else’s life.

Speaking to InStyle for its September cover story, Megan described the aftermath as “very rough” and said she felt as though she had been put through “the washing machine and the dryer with tins, shovels, and a cactus.”

The couple went public in July 2025 and made their red carpet debut that month at Megan’s Pete & Thomas Foundation gala. Their relationship ended in April 2026, when Megan publicly accused Thompson of cheating and questioned his commitment to monogamy. Her representative subsequently confirmed the split, saying trust, fidelity and respect were non-negotiable for the rapper. Thompson did not publicly respond to the cheating allegation at the time.

Megan Says She Was Losing Herself

Megan’s latest comments reveal that the breakup involved more than the infidelity allegation. She told InStyle that she had repeatedly tried to make pieces of the relationship fit when they did not belong.

“It was very rough. Especially….” She trails off, sitting back on the banquette. For the first time in our interview, she slows down, choosing her words carefully. “How do I want to say this gently? What’s meant for you is always going to work out. And if something is constantly making you feel uncomfortable, just on edge all the time, you probably are not supposed to be there. God will always make you uncomfortable when something is not meant for you. I think I just kept trying to make pieces fit that didn’t belong, trying to fit myself into someone else’s life. I was losing myself a little bit. I am now in the space of finding me again.” She stops. A slight smile. She’s not done. “You will not disrespect me. And you will be thankful. Period.”

Finding Herself Again

The most revealing part of Megan’s statement is not the dramatic description of the breakup. It is her admission that she was losing herself while trying to fit into somebody else’s life.

Megan does not explain which parts of herself she felt pressured to surrender. We should not invent details or claim that Thompson wanted her to abandon her career. What she does describe is the gradual erosion that can happen when one person keeps adjusting while the relationship continues to feel wrong.

Megan is an award-winning artist, businesswoman and philanthropist with a life she built through her own talent and determination. Any healthy relationship should make room for that identity. Love should not require a woman to reduce her ambitions, ignore her discomfort or become easier for somebody else to accommodate.

That is why her final declaration matters. “You will not disrespect me” is not bitterness. It is a boundary. Her demand to be appreciated is equally important because tolerance is not the same as love, and simply having a successful woman beside you does not mean you value her properly.

A relationship does not need one person to be completely good and the other completely bad for it to become unhealthy. Sometimes the clearest warning is realising that you no longer recognise yourself inside it.

Megan appears to have reached that point. Now she is choosing herself again, and she is making it clear that nobody gets to benefit from her presence while making her feel diminished.
