Newly published photographs show Prince Andrew kneeling on a rug inside a Windsor residence in 2011, rolling what appears to be a Hooters-branded novelty ball, painted to resemble a breast, with a young boy.

The images, first published by TMZ, depict Andrew on his hands and knees engaging in what the outlet described as playful interaction. At first glance, the scene looks light-hearted. However, the ball’s design, styled as a breast with a protruding pink nipple, immediately changes the tone and makes the moment far more troubling.

The photographs reportedly were taken inside Andrew’s residence and sources claim he was not alone with the child. Still, the optics are difficult to ignore. A senior royal figure — even one who has since stepped back from public duties — crawling on the floor in a palace setting with a sexualized novelty item raises obvious concerns about judgment.

These images have resurfaced at a time when Andrew faces renewed scrutiny. Police recently arrested him on suspicion of misconduct in public office, with investigators reportedly examining emails tied to his time as UK trade envoy and his association with Jeffrey Epstein. Authorities say this investigation does not relate to earlier sexual misconduct allegations.

Andrew was later released from detention. However, the timing of the photo release adds another layer to an already damaged public image.

Even if authorities have not alleged criminal wrongdoing over these photographs, Andrew still chose to take part in an activity involving a sexually themed novelty item inside a royal residence. A senior royal carries responsibility for his conduct, and given his past associations, he cannot ignore how this reflects on public trust.

And once again, the optics are not in his favour.
